UEFA is pursuing criminal legal proceedings against FIFA President Gianni Infantino in Switzerland, accusing him of 'criminal mismanagement' over the now-abandoned plan to sell stakes in the World Cup and other competitions to private investors. Documents seen by BBC Sport reveal UEFA's application for evidence in Florida, alleging Infantino engineered the scheme for personal gain and that the valuation was 'fraudulently off-market.' The plan, which would have created a new subsidiary called FIFA Forward Enterprise, was scrapped after widespread backlash, including threats of a World Cup boycott from UEFA and its members.
In truth, it was a vehicle for Infantino and that small circle to acquire a permanent stake in and otherwise profit from Fifa's most valuable assets to the detriment of Fifa, its members, and other parties within the football family.
