Live AIS tracker shows 20% of world's oil passing through Strait of Hormuz

Strait of Hormuz Live Traffic Tracking

hormuz.now offers a free, real-time dashboard of vessel traffic in the Strait of Hormuz, the maritime chokepoint between Iran and Oman. The tracker displays AIS data for tankers, cargo ships, and other vessels, with filters for vessel type, flag state, and direction. It highlights the strait's critical role in global oil transit, showing live positions of ships and providing details like speed, course, and destination. The data is crowdsourced and refreshed every few seconds, intended for educational and situational awareness use.

Roughly 20% of the world's petroleum liquids consumption transits through the Strait of Hormuz every day.

Not functioning... "This site can’t be reached" - Slashdot effect?

Iran hit a uae ship today. For the ships that are transiting are shipping companies paying Iran to allow shipments? If it's in bitcoin then the payments would be visible if you know/suspect the wallets ot amounts.

Or are the attacks on ships more or less random?

What data sources does it use? Some ships turn off AIS when transiting the strait and cannot be easily tracked.

Not only is it closed for marine traffic, they even shut the website.
