Private prisons rake in $1.4B as immigration detentions near record highs

CoreCivic and GEO Group, America's two largest private prison companies, reported a combined $1.4 billion in quarterly revenue for spring 2026, driven by surging immigration detentions. The figure excludes CoreCivic's $1.6 billion profit from selling four facilities to the Department of Homeland Security. With nearly 66,000 people in ICE custody, both firms are expanding into ankle monitoring for Haitian immigrants and other revenue streams, while facing scrutiny over their deep ties to the Trump administration.
