My Work PC's SSD Is Cooking at 107°C — and It's Not My Fault
File Recovery in Process
Gunnar Wolf is slowly backing up his work desktop after discovering data corruption. The culprit: a cheap 4TB NVMe SSD running at 107°C, far above its 90°C warning threshold. Wolf, the fourth of ten colleagues to report issues, blames the machine's luxury specs and poor component choice, and plans to push his institute to demand better from the provider. Meanwhile, he's apologizing for unsigned emails and being offline from IRC and Jabber.
It is completely unacceptable, and I’ll be pushing our Institute’s authorities to demand the provider to provide either good component quality for this very expensive system that has many luxury items, or to fix the system’s build in a way the nVME does not heat as much as it currently does.
