GE-97 Terminal: The Old Internet
Khalid Alshaikh built a browser-based Windows 98 that boots, dials up, and browses the archived 1990s web with Flash, MIDI, and VRML restored. The site also serves a Gopher hole with 30,000+ catalogued sites, including a 9,070-site directory of the Arabic web. It's a working room for the old internet, not just a screenshot.
The library kept some of the books; nobody kept the room they were read in.

I'm a little perplexed by this. The "simulator" does not match an actual Windows 98 machine, and is lacking in a lot of the aesthetics. I get the idea, but I have to ask - was this vibe coded? Kind of goes against the website's general aesthetic and ethos.

I'm so incredibly tired of the monospace glowy-text black-background cursor-trail breathless emdash prompt-repeating nonsense text Claude artifacts getting posted here. Not a single paragraph here reads as human-written English.
