AI Opens New Era in Cognitive Studies of Wild Primates

We developed a low-cost, open-source AI system to automate cognitive testing of wild capuchins in Costa Rica. By integrating facial recognition with interactive touchscreens, we bridge the gap between controlled lab experiments and complex natural environments. This approach allows us to study individual personalities and environmental influences on primate cognition without removing them from their habitat.

It's a way of getting into the minds behind the personalities.

Animals in general, I would think. Pattern recognition will go a long way toward decoding some difficult cognition-related questions we have about animals, in particular how they communicate.

so their idea is to put an ipad in the middle of the forest, installed with games, and if played right, delievers a treat... makes me wonder if something alien civilization is not doing something like that to us.
