Strandfall: A Solarpunk Orienteering Larp Blending Digital and Physical Worlds
I'm Making Strandfall, a Solarpunk Orienteering Larp

I am co-creating Strandfall, a physical outdoor larp in Edinburgh that merges Nordic Larp traditions with custom solarpunk hardware. Players will use our McNair-Feldman Devices to navigate storms and connect a radio network, deliberately avoiding smartphones to foster deeper immersion and human connection. This experience aims to blend the exhaustion of movement with the joy of collaborative problem-solving in a site-responsive adventure.
Smartphones are anti-enchantment devices that have no place in an immersive experience seeking to bring participants together to talk, argue, and deliberate.

Oh hey this is my project I’m making with Alex Macmillan! HNers will likely enjoy his more technical explanation: https://strandfall.com/2026/04/10/an-introduction-to-mfds/

The whole paragraph that starts with, "Smartphones are anti-enchantment devices" is gold. Love where you are coming from with this.

Today I learned the Nordic larp style is not the global default. As a Swede who's only ever participated in 2 larps,I hadn't realised people do it differently elsewhere!
I really don't see how leveling and experience points would work in a larp, but then I'm not exactly a experienced larper!
