LG Electronics USA is cracking down on apps that turn smart TVs into residential proxy nodes, following research by Spur revealing over 42 percent of webOS apps contain these hidden SDKs. The company plans to suspend non-compliant developers to protect user privacy, as many apps bundle proxy software from providers like Bright Data without meaningful consent.

A one-time consent prompt buried in a TV app is not a substitute for meaningful transparency, ongoing control, and platform oversight.
