FreeBSD 16 Retires the Last of Its GPL Code from Its Base System

The FreeBSD 16 release marks a historic milestone by removing the final GNU GPL licensed code from its base system. The dialog implementation, the last remaining piece, has been replaced by bsddialog, allowing the project to retire its entire GNU sub-tree. This significant licensing shift paves the way for the upcoming FreeBSD 16.0 launch expected in December 2027.
