Male Pelvis Study Finds Unique Hip Sockets for Efficient Walking

A new study in Scientific Reports analyzed 91 modern human pelvises and two male Neanderthal pelvises, finding that the male modern human pelvis has hip sockets oriented more toward the front. This unique configuration, researchers say, allows better shock absorption and energy return during walking, potentially giving men an advantage over long distances. The findings may inform biomechanics and injury prevention research.

Because our legs are positioned slightly more forward, our quads both absorb the shock of stepping and spring our bodies back upward.
