Hacker revives e-waste Cricut Maker by spoofing serial numbers
Unlocking a locked/deactivated e-waste Cricut Maker

A discarded Cricut Maker, locked by the company, was brought back to life by intercepting USB communication and rewriting serial numbers with a Raspberry Pi Pico. The hack exploits the lack of encryption or checksums in the cutter's USB CDC protocol, allowing the device to appear as a different, active unit. The author suggests software-only alternatives and notes legal concerns about sharing the code.
Obviously this raises the question about random strangers being able to get other users Cricut serial numbers locked out or added to their accounts….
