Spinach-Derived Photosynthesis Could Treat Dry Eye
Applying a photosynthetic process to treat "dry eye"
Researchers have engineered a stripped-down thylakoid system from spinach, called LEAF, that produces NADPH and ATP when exposed to light. In lab tests, LEAF nanoparticles reduced oxidative stress in corneal cells and showed benefits in a rat model of dry eye disease. The approach could offer a novel way to combat chronic inflammation, though effects are short-lived.
These are rather odd things to be thinking about, but I’m glad that someone is.
