The Psychedelic Toad of the Sonoran Desert
An underground pamphlet from 1984, written pseudonymously by Ken Nelson as Albert Most, introduced the world to the psychoactive venom of the Sonoran Desert toad. It sparked recreational use of 5-MeO-DMT and led to scientific recognition of the first animal-derived psychedelic. After a misattribution in a documentary, Nelson was revealed as the true author, and a revised edition was published in 2021 with a chemical synthesis to help conserve the toad.
The pamphlet was responsible for the start of the recreational use of the toad venom and of 5-MeO-DMT.

Every time I find one of these in my backyard with my dog, I have to spray my dog’s mouth out with the hose for 5 minutes. Psychedelic, but also very toxic.
