Trapped in a Lift, I Used Mosh to Escape

Iain Learmonth recounts being trapped in a malfunctioning lift in Aberdeen, where the alarm button only made noise and his phone had almost no signal. After an hour of panic, he managed to connect to his flat's WiFi and used mosh, a remote shell tool, to send an email via the SDF MetaArray. Within minutes, the fire brigade was called, and the lift miraculously started working again. The incident highlights the importance of resilient communication tools and the absurdity of a metal box without a phone.
mosh can cope with this high level of packet loss and worked a hell of a lot better than I'd expected to.
