Oil Giants Report Record Profits Amid Wartime Crude Price Surge

Major energy firms like Chevron, Shell, and ExxonMobil reported record-breaking quarterly earnings driven by soaring crude prices linked to the Middle East conflict. While these windfalls have sparked calls for special taxes from lawmakers, executives argue such measures are misguided. Instead of expanding production, companies are prioritizing debt reduction and long-term financial stability, anticipating that the current supply disruptions are temporary.

We canceled investments that we had planned for Europe based on the last time they passed a windfall profits tax, and in fact we're suing because we don't think that's a legal taking for the industry.

US voters chose to reduce their taxes by a margin they won't notice in exchange for increasing their energy prices by an amount they will absolutely notice.

The wild thing is that this is an extremely predictable thing that has happened every time this political party is given control of the military. The chutzpah of claiming to be anti-war is breathtaking, and it's stunning that voters fell for it.
