During the early years of World War II, the Luftwaffe used radio navigation systems like Knickebein and X-Gerät to guide bombers to targets in Britain. British scientist R.V. Jones and his team detected these beams and developed countermeasures, including jamming and deceptive signals that caused German bombers to miss their targets. The Germans, convinced the British had bent the beams, eventually abandoned radio navigation over the UK.
The Germans became convinced the British had somehow learned to bend radio signals.
