Defcon 34 Badges Feature the Open-Source Baochip Security Key
New Defcon Badges Pack a Unique Open-Source Chip That Doubles as a Security Key

I designed the Baochip-1x, a mostly open-source microcontroller embedded in this year's Defcon badges. Unlike traditional black-box chips, its transparent packaging allows infrared inspection of the silicon itself to verify security. Beyond the conference, the removable module functions as a FIDO hardware security token, offering a verifiable alternative to opaque authentication devices while promoting trust and transparency in computing.
I've always kind of dreamed of this idea where you can take your secrets, put them in hardware, and then if an attacker gets in, they can't quite get your secrets.
