Valve Funds Collabora to Bring Open-Source RADV Driver to Windows

Valve has sponsored Collabora engineers to port the open-source Radeon Vulkan driver, known as RADV, to Microsoft Windows. This experimental work aims to make the driver viable on Windows by integrating with the official AMD Radeon Software kernel driver. The team has successfully demonstrated Counter-Strike 2 running on this new setup, marking a significant step for open-source graphics support on the platform.

Ultimately for this to really work out well, they either need a stable and documented interface to the AMD kernel graphics driver on Windows or to create a shim library that can sit between RADV and the kernel driver as a stable interface to work through the undocumented changes between AMD Radeon Software Windows driver releases.
