Reinventing Email with HTTP and Modern Web Standards
Modern email can be built from borrowed parts
I propose building a successor to email using existing web technologies like HTTP, TLS, and ActivityPub instead of SMTP. By assembling standards such as WebFinger, Ed25519, and HPKE, we can fix forty years of design flaws while keeping familiar user addresses. This approach leverages proven infrastructure to handle discovery, encryption, and delivery without inventing new protocols.
The only thing we are going to keep is the shape of the addresses, user@domain. Everything else gets reinvented.
