Pushinka: The Cold War Puppy Who Survived Space and Spied on the Kennedys
Pushinka

Pushinka was a mixed-breed dog gifted by Soviet Premier Nikita Khrushchev to President John F. Kennedy in 1961. As the daughter of Strelka, the first dog to survive space travel, she arrived at the White House with a unique backstory. Fearing espionage, the CIA subjected her to rigorous X-rays and magnetometer scans before she was cleared. She later gave birth to four puppies, humorously dubbed 'pupniks' by the President, becoming a beloved symbol of a brief thaw in Cold War tensions.
"Pushinka was examined by the Central Intelligence Agency at the Walter Reed Army Medical Center over fears that she might be concealing an implanted listening device."
