The Art of Braiding Algorithms: Exploring String Figures and Braid Groups
Talk: The Art of Braiding Algorithms
I presented a workshop at the Relatorium seminar exploring string figures as algorithmic art. We applied braid groups to analyze these patterns and engaged in hands-on exploration with real string. The session also reflected on the crucial role of notation in mathematics, serving as a rehearsal for our upcoming Bridges presentation.
"Birman and Menasco’s Theorem 1 addresses, at the highest level of generality possible, the question: 'What moves do you need to generate all possible string figures?'"
