After building Bun in Zig to achieve massive scope and speed, I faced persistent memory safety challenges mixing garbage collection with manual management. Despite rigorous testing, bugs like use-after-free and leaks plagued our stability. We are now rewriting Bun in Rust to leverage its compiler-enforced memory safety, ensuring automatic cleanup and preventing critical errors that style guides alone could not stop.
