Midtown Manhattan Evacuated After Buckling Beams at Pfizer Site

Several Midtown Manhattan blocks were evacuated after structural beams buckled at 235 East 42nd Street, the former Pfizer headquarters. The 37-story building, currently being converted into residential housing by Metro Loft, showed signs of instability on the 21st floor, causing upper floors to cave under stress. While no injuries were reported, officials confirmed the structure remains unstable and continues to move, prompting the evacuation of nearby buildings, including a school and a Hampton Inn.

"The building has continued to move since we have been on scene. It does mean it is not yet stable."
